C.L.I.C.K. for Justice & Equality

C.L.I.C.K. for Justice and Equality is an agent of change alerting our social community of injustices and inequalities among the underserved, disadvantaged, and disenfranchised individual or group. A disadvantaged or disenfranchised person or group is anyone who is socially, culturally, and politically deprived of or oppressed from life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Change takes place through our legislative body of Senators and State Representatives, not from the Judicial bench.

March 31, 2010

What are the social policy implications?

Dr. Fred Nance Jr. is a voice for the underserved, disenfranchised, and disadvantaged.

From ancient Egyptian philosophers spoken and written of by Molefi Asante, Jacob Caruthers, Chiek Anta Diop and Psychologist Wade Noble; to ancient Greek thinkers like Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle; to Christian philosophers such as Augustine, Anselm, Aquinas and R.C. Sproul; to the shapers of modern thought such as Hume, Kant, Nietzsche, Illinois Congressman Danny Davis and Dr. Terra Thomas; What are the consequences of each of these thinkers and other important thinkers' ideas on world events, theology, the fine arts and culture? Are we, as a society, still scratching to survive our ideologies? Many of us work, interact and socialize with each other because we have too. There is a small percentage of those who do it because they want too. We draw racial and political boundaries to protect ourselves from being known for who we really are. What is your contribution to this trivia?

The President & CEO of C.L.I.C.K. Services, NFP, Dr. Fred Nance Jr., received his Bachelor and Master degrees from Roosevelt University, Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Nance received his PhD from Walden University. His doctoral studies are in the discipline of Human Services with a focus on Social Policy Analysis and Planning. Dr. Nance has examined and studied social theoretical constructs, conducted research on policy issues, and professional practices in societal development, human development, organization and social systems, and ethics.

C.L.I.C.K. Services, NFP is organized exclusively for charitable, religious, educational, and scientific purposes under section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code, or corresponding section of any future federal tax code. C.L.I.C.K. is a public charity. C.L.I.C.K.'s charitable status includes, but is not limited to, relief of the poor, the distressed or the underprivileged lessening the burdens of government, lessening neighborhood tensions, eliminating prejudice and discrimination, defending human and civil rights secured by law, and combating community deterioration and juvenile delinquency. C.L.I.C.K. will process donations and contributions toward its vision and mission statements. Your donations/contributions, no matter how small, will assist in providing needed housing and services to our consumers. One Act of Random Kindness (A.R.K.) helps us all.

2010 Census Cautions and Chgo Property Tax relief prgm info

2010 Census to Begin

WARNING: 2010 Census Cautions from the Better Business Bureau

Be Cautious About Giving Info to Census Workers by Susan Johnson

With the U.S. Census process beginning, the Better Business Bureau
(BBB) advises people to be cooperative, but cautious, so as not to become a victim of fraud or identity theft. The first phase of the 2010 U.S. Census is under way as workers have begun verifying the addresses of households across the country. Eventually, more than 140,000 U.S. Census workers will count every person in the United States and will gather information about every person living at each address including name, age, gender, race, and other relevant data.

The big question is - how do you tell the difference between a U.S. Census worker and a con artist? BBB offers the following advice:

** If a U.S. Census worker knocks on your door, they will have a badge, a handheld device,

a Census Bureau canvas bag, and a confidentiality notice.

Ask to see their identification and their badge before answering their questions.

However, you should never invite anyone you don't know into your home.

** Census workers are currently only knocking on doors to verify address information.

DO NOT give your Social Security number, credit card or banking information to anyone,

even if they claim they need it for the U.S.  Census.

REMEMBER, NO MATTER WHAT THEY ASK, YOU REALLY ONLY NEED TO TELL THEM HOW MANY PEOPLE LIVE AT YOUR ADDRESS.

While the Census Bureau might ask for basic financial information,

such as a salary range,

YOU DON'T HAVE TO ANSWER ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT YOUR FINANCIAL SITUATION.

The Census Bureau will not ask for Social Security, bank account, or credit card numbers, nor will employees solicit donations.

Any one asking for that information is NOT with the Census Bureau.

AND REMEMBER, THE CENSUS BUREAU HAS DECIDED NOT TO WORK WITH ACORN

ON GATHERING THIS INFORMATION.

No Acorn worker should approach you saying he/she is with the Census Bureau.

Eventually, Census workers may contact you by telephone, mail, or in person at home. However, the Census Bureau will not contact you by Email, so be on the lookout for Email scams impersonating the Census.

Never click on a link or open any attachments in an Email that  are

supposedly from the U.S. . Census Bureau.

For more advice on avoiding identity theft and fraud, visit www.bbb.org

PLEASE SHARE THIS INFO WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

White House counterterrorism chief John Brennan revealed Sunday that he briefed four Republican congressional leaders on Christmas night about the arrest and subsequent handling of the suspect in an attempted sky bombing. "None of those individuals raised any concerns with me at that point," Brennan said on NBC's "Meet the Press." The revelation could undermine Republican complaints about the reading of Miranda rights to the Nigerian suspect.

Statement on Scott Lee Cohen

 Miller banner

Dear Friend,
Yesterday, I issued a statement calling for Scott Lee Cohen to step down because I believe it's critical to be very clear about the values we as democrats stand for and the responsibilities we have as public officials.
I've heard from many people that they would not have voted for Scott Lee Cohen if they had known more about him.  This is a sad commentary on our democracy - he was on tv more than his opponents, so people recognized his name more than the others.  And unfortunately, in many elections, we simply don't know enough about the candidates on the ballot.

This has emerged as a crisis for our democratic ticket and for our democracy.  Please take a moment and read more about this issue.

The Chicago Tribune, Capitol Fax, and Progress Illinois picked up my statement, but there is more coverage on this in most news outlets today.

Below is the statement I issued yesterday:
"Scott Lee Cohen should step down as the Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor immediately.  He does not represent the values of our party and I don't believe he has adequately disclosed his past history to the voters of Illinois.

I find it appalling to even consider someone with his record to hold any kind of public office.  People need to have faith and trust in elected leaders, and we don't need anyone in office who has abused women or neglected their responsibilities.

His refusal to step down is not only arrogant, but he is sending a message that domestic abuse is acceptable.  It is completely and totally unacceptable."

Please share this story with friends and family.  Let them know about me and what I stand for.  Let's not let this happen again.

Sincerely,

David Miller

Quick Fact: Wash. Times, Fox News' North advance claim that repealing DADT is a harmful "social experiment"
The Washington Times and Fox News host Oliver North advanced the baseless claim that repealing "don't ask, don't tell" amounts to a "social experiment" and "social engineering" that would be detrimental to the military and "military readiness." In fact, those claims are heavily undermined by the fact that other countries allow gay men and lesbians to serve in the military, and many have said it has not created problems. Read More
Morris forwards dubious figure for total TARP repayments
In a New York Post column, Dick Morris and Eileen McGann wrote that President Obama should "[r]efund to the Treasury the $500 billion in TARP funds repaid by the banks." But according to the Treasury Department, Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) repayments have totaled $165 billion as of January 6, a third of the figure offered by Morris and McGann. Read More
Fox & Friends ignores Fox News' own reporting in trumpeting Bond's dubious accusations regarding disclosure of Abdulmutallab's cooperation
Fox & Friends co-hosts highlighted Sen. Kit Bond's (R-MO) allegation that it was wrong to disclose that Northwest Airlines bombing suspect Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was now cooperating with the investigation because, according to Bond, FBI officials, including director Robert Mueller, instructed members of the Senate Intelligence Committee that "keeping the fact of his cooperation quiet was vital to preventing future attacks against the United States." But Fox & Friends ignored its own organization's reporting that Senate Intelligence Committee chair Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and law enforcement officials have disputed Bond's accusations. Why does Fox choose to use loaded term "illegals"?
On February 5, Fox News' Fox & Friends aired on-screen text stating, "Estimates: 980,000 illegals living in FL," continuing a Fox News pattern of using the pejorative and unprofessional term "illegals" to refer to immigrants in the United States without legal status. Prominent journalists' associations have denounced the use of the term "illegals" by the news media, noting that the term "criminaliz[es] the person, not the action," and "skew[s] the public debate on immigration issues." Politico quotes Lott calling Obama "foolish" for trying to pass cap and trade without noting Lott lobbied against it
The Politico quoted former Sen. Trent Lott (R-MS) stating that the Obama administration was "foolish to take all those big votes on cap and trade" because doing so endangered moderate Democrats. While Politico identified Lott as a lobbyist, it did not note that his firm lobbies for oil companies on issues including the cap and trade bill, and thus has a financial interest in its defeat. Wash. Times' Pruden continues assault on gay men and lesbians in military
In an anti-gay screed, Washington Times editor emeritus Wesley Pruden wrote that "[t]here's really not very much gay about war," but that "[y]ou might think war is endless gaiety, like Mardi Gras, from this week's coverage of" Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Mike Mullen's February 2 testimony on repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell (DADT). This is only the most recent offense in Pruden's and the Washington Times' long history of anti-gay rhetoric and smears, including Pruden's prior statements that those who support allowing gay men and lesbians to serve openly in the military want to "make the barracks safe for sodomy," and that doing so would "render [the military] inoperable for the convenience of puffs and poofs." AAA Member Select Automobile Insurance: Accident Arbitration Fiasco

February 4, 2010

Via E-Mail
Ms. Diane Hutcherson
Schoolmaster, Hom, Killeen, Siefer & Arene
150 West Jefferson Avenue
Detroit, Michigan 48226

Re:

Insured: Fred Nance
Claimants: Rose Bradford, et al.
Court No.: 09 L 003377
Claim No.: IL-3007042
Date of Loss: August 13, 2008

Ms. Hutcherson:

I was totally disappointed in the decision rendered by Arbitration judges, Mr. John Fitzgerald, Ms. Aviva Lichtenstein, and Renu Thamman all of who are “white”. It was totally biased toward me an African American male, favoring the defendants (females), and in particular the “white” Attorney who was defending the counterclaim. This decision of “negligence” against me had to be based on a statement the “white” attorney reported I made, which was taken out of context by this attorney defending the counterclaim. This tribunal had nothing else to base their decision against me.

I informed this “tribunal” that the plaintiff (Bradford) stop and proceeded to drive 3 to 4 different times before the accident. I informed this tribunal that after the 2nd or 3rd stopping and going of Bradford “…I got tired of this mess and proceeded to go around her….” The Attorney defending the counterclaim told the tribunal that because I said “I got tired of this mess” I was reckless and negligent. Mr. Scott McKenna, who works for you, did not challenge or object to this statement, thus giving this statement validity.

There was no other reason this tribunal could have come to a decision of negligence on my part. If they had some “real” evidence of negligence they would have ruled “completely” in the plaintiff’s favor. As Mr. McKenna states, you and AAA received an excellent result in terms of the damages. This tribunal gave Bradford and her band of “liars” their emergency room charges, that is, $3,777.00 instead of the $34,712.00 they asked for their “bogus” treatment. The plaintiffs’ admitted they never saw a medical doctor.

One of the professional “hats” I wear is that of a clinical counselor/therapist. I have worked in this area for over 14 years. I pay attention to an individuals’ body language when in communication or dialogue. I have adopted the theory that at least 70% of communication when speaking is body language. This tribunal and the “white” attorneys for Bradford resented the fact I had a Ph.D. I had to continuously remind them not to address me as “Mr. Nance”, but rather,“Dr. Nance.” The “white” tribunal and attorneys for the plaintiff(s) body language spoke volumes to how they characterized me.

I have been litigating since 1992, in the State of Illinois circuit and appellate courts, the Federal district and appellate courts, the Illinois Supreme Court, and the United States Supreme Court. I am familiar with the processes. One of the amazing things about the processes of this tribunal is that they allowed the plaintiffs to sit in the room while each gave testimony to how the accident occurred, how they sustained their injuries, and how their injuries were treated. Each plaintiff said the same thing they heard the other plaintiff say. Mr. McKenna did not object to this testimony or practice. To get at the “real” facts in arbitration or any litigation, the plaintiff(s), defendant(s), or any witnesses should give testimony individually and privately to a tribunal, in this case, or a judge. Using these processes, the testimony has more validity. This tribunal was not looking for justice or equality in their decision. This decision was ludicrous, nefarious, and prejudiced against me.

I would not suggest you deny the arbitration award. It favors your client (AAA). The issue I have is that this decision reports me as being negligent, when I know the plaintiff Bradford caused this accident, and she lied under oath. More importantly, is the issue of an award of any kind going to the plaintiffs. This is not only happening here in Illinois, but all over the country. This is one of the things that are driving automobile insurance rates up all over the country. This is a negative social issue. This is a policy issue.

I will reserve writing more on this issue, at this time. I will consult with my peers on this issue to see who is writing or addressing insurance fraud and policy. I will post this correspondence on my blog, on Twitter, on Facebook, and LinkedIn, to name a few.

Respectfully submitted,

Fred Nance Jr., Ph.D.

Dear Friend,

I can't thank you enough for your incredible support throughout my campaign. We are moving on to the November general election!!
Because of your efforts, I'm happy to share that Raja Krishnamoorthi called me to concede once all the votes came in.  Clint had also given me a call on election night.  And while we won by more than 8,000 votes, the results of this close race show we are a diverse party with some very solid ideas on moving Illinois forward.

I commend both Raja and Clint for running great, positive campaigns – they ran for the right reasons.  We all share the same heartfelt desire to overcome the challenges before us, and we all seek better transparency and accountability for taxpayers.

Our agreement on these priorities strengthens and unifies us as democrats, and sends a strong message that we are the ones who will get the state back on track.

Now, we go on to face a well-known opponent, who yesterday declared herself the "Terminator" against Democrats.  I believe the people of Illinois have already been through enough - from the budget crisis to a leadership crisis - and the last thing we need is someone calling for more "terminations."

So, I'm getting to work right away.  I returned to Springfield yesterday to continue to serve my district as state representative.

I'm also hitting the ground running in preparation for the November general election.  But I need your help in continuing the momentum for our campaign.
My opponent is looking to destroy while I am looking to build.  And my opponent is also going to invest a lot of time and resources in assembling a formidable war chest.  Which is why I need to hear from you. Let's kick off this campaign by sending a loud and clear message to our opponents that we're not interested in destruction.

We need to re-build our state, balance our budget and build anew!  Let's do this together - volunteer, contribute.  And let's get started today!

During a segment in which Sean Hannity and his guests declared that President Obama was "out of touch" with the American people, Hannity stated that former President Bush "did not play golf while this country was at war" and that Bush "seemed to be far more in touch" with the country than Obama. In fact, Bush did play golf while the country was at war, as evidenced by 2002 video of him denouncing a terrorist attack, then telling reporters, "watch this drive," before swinging at a golf ball; additionally, although Bush later declared that he gave up golf in 2003, he took up the hobby of biking. Kilmeade criticizes Obama for "never call[ing]" HIG unit that was not "fully operational" to interrogate Abdulmutallab
On Fox & Friends, co-host Brian Kilmeade criticized President Obama for "never call[ing]" the "high value interrogation unit" following Northwest Airlines bombing suspect Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab's arrest. But in fact, as Director of National Intelligence Dennis Blair has acknowledged, the unit is not "fully operational"; moreover, it is not designed for use in the United States. Read More
Quick Fact: Limbaugh falsely claims Dems' health care bill "puts people in jail" for not having health insurance
In an interview on Fox & Friends, Rush Limbaugh falsely claimed that the Democrats' health reform plan "puts people in jail, potentially, if they don't have health insurance." In fact, the penalty for failure to purchase insurance is a tax, not jail time, and willful failure to pay taxes of any sort can result in civil or criminal penalties. Read More
Fox News still falsely comparing health care reform legislation to Canadian system
Fox News has seized upon reports that Canadian Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Danny Williams is seeking medical treatment in the United States to criticize health care reform, claiming that his medical decision casts doubt on the Canadian system and that the Democrats' health care reform legislation would "change our system to be more like Canada's." In fact, the health care legislation proposed by both the House and Senate is not modeled after the Canadian single-payer system and maintains the majority of the private health care industry. Quick Fact: IBD advances dubious claim that Abdulmutallab stopped cooperating after being read Miranda rights
An Investor's Business Daily editorial claimed that the Obama administration allowed Northwest Airlines bombing suspect Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab to "clam up" by "reading him his Miranda rights." But numerous news outlets have reported that according to federal officials, federal agents decided to give Abdulmutallab a Miranda warning after he had already stopped cooperating. Read More
Ignoring previous claims by experts, RedState attacks DHS for citing climate change as national security threat
A RedState post -- advanced by the Fox Nation -- cited a recent Department of Homeland Security report noting that "[d]ependence on fossil fuels and the threat of global climate change" threatens "America's national interests" to question whether "DHS is more serious about Homeland Security than they are about advancing Obama Administration policy goals." However, defense and intelligence experts -- including a National Intelligence Council chair under President Bush -- have previously said that climate change and fossil fuel consumption are relevant to national security. Obama's prayer breakfast comments follow years of right-wing media "question[ing]" his faith, citizenship
During his February 4 speech at the National Prayer Breakfast, President Obama stated, "you can question my policies, but don't question my faith, or, for that matter, my citizenship." For years, conservative media have asked such questions, often falsely claiming or suggesting that Obama is a Muslim, smearing him over his church attendance and his relationship with Rev. Jeremiah Wright, and advancing various versions of the discredited myth that Obama has not produced a valid birth certificate, is not a natural-born U.S. citizen, and is not eligible to be president. Conservative media, USA Today promote idea of Obama administration conspiracy against Toyota
Conservative media outlets, as well as a USA Today blogger, have suggested or asserted that the Obama administration is forcing the recall of millions of Toyota vehicles for safety issues regarding reports of sudden unintended acceleration in order to denigrate the company, benefit unions, and boost sales of vehicles manufactured by General Motors and Chrysler, which the federal government bailed out last year. In fact, sudden acceleration in Toyota vehicles has reportedly been an issue as early as 1999, and Toyota has stated that its recall was voluntary. Read More
Right-wing blogosphere baselessly fearmonger over IRS weapons purchase
Several right-wing blogs have baselessly fearmongered over an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) purchase request for 60 shotguns for its Criminal Investigation Division (CI), stating that "we should have seen this coming" and that that it indicated that President Obama "thinks they're gonna have to start shooting at us to squeeze what we have left out of us." But IRS CI employs 2,700 special agents who are required to "carry and use a firearm," and as the purchase request itself indicates, the IRS has previously purchased shotguns, as the type was selected "based on compatibility with IRS existing shotgun inventory." RedState's Erickson brings conservatives' witch hunt to HRC's Knox
RedState managing editor Erick Erickson stated that Harry Knox, a Human Rights Campaign official appointed by President Obama to the Advisory Council of the Office of Faith Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, is an "insult to the Christian faith" who "cannot be trusted to fairly work with Catholics" after criticizing Pope Benedict XVI for "hurting people in the name of Jesus." But Erickson, who stated that "the basis" for Knox's "attack on the Catholic Church is its position on homosexuality," did not note that Knox's comments came in response to the Pope's statement that condom distribution "increases the problem" of AIDS, a remark for which the Pope received widespread criticism, including from ministers of several nations. Andrew Breitbart and the Vince Foster conspiracists
If there's anything more bizarre than an Andrew Breitbart conspiracy theory, it's the decision of so many mainstream reporters to handle him with kid gloves. Breitbart is waging war on the establishment media, and they respond with friendly profiles that whitewash his dishonesty and sleaziness -- apparently not realizing that by legitimizing Breitbart, they hasten their own downfall. Fox News personalities' pattern of violent rhetoric
On February 3, Fox Business host John Stossel told New York magazine that he has "Barney Frank in effigy" hanging above his sofa. Stossel is just the latest in a long line of Fox News personalities using violent rhetoric. Read More

Obama Calls Out Republicans, But Nobody's Home - Yahoo! News

Obama Calls Out Republicans, But Nobody's Home - Yahoo! News

"I am not an ideologue," the President said to the House Republicans, cocooned in their annual policy caucus in Baltimore - and the ideologues among them laughed. The President was explaining, in the midst of an unprecedented, televised "Question Time" session, that he was open to any good ideas they might have. "It doesn't make sense," he continued, that if they told him," 'You could do this cheaper and get increased results,' that I wouldn't say, 'Great.'" But the logic of this seemed to slip past the assembled legislators - and the "I am not an ideologue" bite became a derisive staple on Fox News. And therein lies the crisis of democracy that our country faces: a moderate-liberal President, willing to make judicious compromises, confronted by a Republican Party paralyzed by cynicism and hypocrisy, undergirded by inchoate ideological fervor.

Decline Awaits Toyota After Its Car Recalls and Repairs - Yahoo! News

U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood told reporters at a Wednesday breakfast that people should stop driving their Toyotas, then later toned down his comments to a repair advisory. Maybe it's just Washington's new toughness in dealing with Big Business, but LaHood's shot was clearly a sign that respect for the king of cars is no longer in effect.

Obama Administration Knew Foreclosure Program Wasn't Working Right, Did Nothing

Obama Administration Knew Foreclosure Program Wasn't Working Right, Did Nothing

Even as the Obama administration's signature foreclosure-prevention program has foundered, Treasury Department officials have known that a key driver in keeping people in their homes in the long run is reducing mortgage principal, senior Treasury advisor Seth Wheeler told the Huffington Post. Wheeler is one of the architects of the administration's housing plan.
