May 29, 2007
On May 29, 2007 while shopping at Home Depot in Lansing, Illinois I found a Chase Bankcard belonging to Ms. Evelyn M. Patton-Shinall. I drove a mile to turn the card in to a Chase Bank Manager. I gave the card to Mr. Christopher W. Johnson, Vice President, Branch Manager, Calumet City Branch, located at 1783 River Oaks Drive, Calument City, Illinois 60409. Mr. Johnson assured me they would contact the person and destroy the card.
This incident reminded of when I saw a lady's wallet fall from her car as I was driving down Sibley Boulevard in the Fall of 1997 or 1998. I was working for the Human Resource Development Institute, Inc. (HRDI) at the time. I was pumping gas and this lady was pumping gas also. This lady put her wallet on the top of her car while she was pumping gas. When we were finished pumping our gas we left the gas station. This lady left her wallet on the top of her car as she drove off.
The wallet had about $300.00 dollars in it and some other identification. I called the phone numbers I found in the wallet. I left messages to get in touch with me. The lady called me 3 days later. This lady picked up her wallet at the HRDI office where I worked where her money and other valuables were still intact.
In both cases I did not ask for or get a reward. The reward or payoff in the lost wallet case was demonstrating to my grandsons who were in the car with me how to be honest. The reward or payoff in the lost Chase Bank card is Ms. Patton-Shinall will not have worry about the funds she has in that account because she lost her card.
I lost my wallet in November of 2006. No one returned my wallet or the credit cards in it. Someday people will respect what integrity and honesty brings to relationships, friendships and our social world.
