Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas) retracted his apology to BP and apologized for using the term "shakedown" to refer to the $20 billion oil spill cleanup fund the company agreed to set up. "I regret the impact that my statement this morning implied that BP should not pay for the consequences of their decisions and actions in this incident," Barton said in a statement issued by House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio).
This guy is retracting his statement only because he thinks it will effect his re-election and the Republican base.
